Honduras Cosogual

The Cosogual Cooperative is located in the mountains of western Honduras. The rolling hills of coffee farms are watched over by the Piedra Parada, or “Standing Rock,” a monument to represent the struggle of the indigenous people of Honduras against Spanish occupation. Cosogual’s premium Fair Trade Organic coffee is grown amidst this historical landmark, where in 1536 the indigenous revolutionary leader, Lempira, fell to the Spanish soldiers. Cosogual uses organic farming methods only, including the use of compost for fertilizer and natural remedies to combat pests. Cosogual members are maintaining solidarity of their cooperative and reaching financial empowerment through working Fair Trade deals with importers. Organic and Fair Trade premiums help finance education for members and their families.
